The Welsh Mountain Zoo, the National Zoo of Wales, has taken a significant step forward in modernising its operations by partnering with Vennersys, a leading provider of visitor management solutions.
Established in 1963 by the Jackson family, the Welsh Mountain Zoo is the oldest zoo in Wales.
Situated on 37 acres of stunning landscape overlooking Colwyn Bay and the Carneddau mountains, it is home to around 60 species and has welcomed over eight million visitors since opening.
As a registered charity, the zoo plays an essential role in conservation and education, making ongoing improvements a key priority.
Welcoming over 160,000 visitors each year, they required a ticketing system that could evolve with its needs. While the previous system had served its purpose, it lacked flexibility in certain areas such as memberships, experiences, and animal adoptions.
This upgrade aims to improve visitor experience and streamline key processes, ensuring the zoo can continue its vital conservation and education work.
Vennersys, with over three decades of experience in the visitor attraction sector, provided a tailored system through VenposCloud Visitor Management System.
The new system improves admissions management, connects retail and hospitality sales, and streamlines membership and experience bookings. It also allows for Direct Debit and Gift Aid integration, simplifying payments and helping the zoo maximise charitable contributions.
Six new tills have been installed across the site, improving transaction efficiency and gathering valuable visitor insights.
Since implementing the new system, the zoo has received positive feedback on the support provided by Vennersys. A key part of the transition was the work of Vennersys’ Project Implementation Consultant, Miles, who ensured a smooth and successful rollout.
The introduction of VenposCloud meets the zoo’s current needs while also laying the foundation for future developments. Plans for enhancements such as self-service kiosks and improved access control are already in discussion.
With technology playing an increasingly important role in visitor attractions, this upgrade supports the zoo’s long-term vision while ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors.
