The Deep were thrilled to receive the T.I.C Friends Public Venue Award at the recent T.I.C Awards ceremony hosted at DoubleTree by Hilton Hull. Organised by local charity Tourettes-Syndrome Inclusion in the Community (T.I.C) Yorkshire, the evening welcomed several organisations which had been shortlisted for the chance to receive one of two accolades, the T.I.C Friends Public Venue or T.I.C Friends Community Organisation Award.
A diverse range of organisations from around Hull & East Yorkshire attended the awards evening, helping to celebrate the incredible work that has been carried out across the region to ensure individuals with Tourettes-Syndrome and their families feel included and accepted into community spaces.
Since welcoming the team from T.I.C Yorkshire to the site to deliver a training session in November 2023, The Deep has been recognised as a T.I.C Friendly Establishment. A number of Crew attended the session held by the charity from a variety of different departments, including front-of-house to behind-the-scenes. The insightful training provided more in-depth information about how the team can support individuals with TIC and Tourettes-Syndrome around the aquarium.
Katy Duke, Chief Executive Officer, said:
“We are very grateful to have received the T.I.C Friends Public Venue Award and proud to be recognised as a T.I.C Friendly Establishment in Hull. Hopefully this will continue to inspire more local organisations to get in touch with T.I.C Yorkshire and register for the training, as the support provided by their team has been invaluable.”
Kim Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of T.I.C Yorkshire, said:
"It is often really difficult to find public spaces that allow our families to feel safe and included, The Deep are doing an amazing job and are well deserving of this award. We thank you."
