Colchester Zoo are pleased to confirm that on the 2nd April, their charity, ‘Action for the Wild’ changed its name to ‘Colchester Zoological Society’ (CZS). This change takes place in preparation for the charity to take over the running of the Zoo from 1st January 2025 as announced in 2023. Read more about the change here.
The change of name forms a synergy between the Zoo now and the transition into a charity. ‘Colchester Zoological Society’ (CZS), abbreviated remains as Colchester Zoo which many people will continue to refer to the Zoo as due to the reputation it has built over the years.
The Zoo’s charity may have changed its name but the support that they provide towards other conservation projects worldwide remains the same and will continue on into the future caring for wildlife and wild places alongside the Zoo.
Colchester Zoo’s charitable arm has supported wildlife projects since 2004, donating over £4.2 million to conservation projects across the globe. From supporting the Red Panda Network in Nepal, to the Fisher Estuarine Moth in Essex, it’s now more important than ever that Zoos must take action for the wild to help prevent the extinction of species around the world.
Colchester Zoo shares their charity’s 2023 annual report, which demonstrates the projects supported and how each visit to the Zoo helps towards different conservation projects and charities including the UmPhafa Nature Reserve in South Africa.
