Elephant Care & Welfare
The Elephant Welfare Group (EWG) convened by BIAZA was tasked by the Government to review and monitor the welfare of elephants in the UK while making recommendations for improvements. This group provided its 10 year report to Defra and the Zoos Expert Committee in 2021. Following the publication of the Ministerial response to the report in May 2025, it can now be viewed here.
