National Zoological Society of Wales – Welsh Mountain Zoo
About Us
The National Zoological Society of Wales – Welsh Mountain Zoo is Wales' National Zoo and a registered conservation and education charity.
Based in Colwyn Bay, we care for over 60 species, welcome more than 150,000 visitors each year and deliver conservation projects both in Wales and internationally. As a member of BIAZA, EAZA and WAZA, we are committed to the highest standards of animal welfare, conservation and education.
Trustee Opportunities
We are seeking to appoint up to three Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of Wales' National Zoo.
We are particularly looking to recruit:
- Two Trustees with extensive experience in finance, investment and business strategy, ideally including experience of government and/or commercial funding. Charity experience and strong professional networks would be advantageous.
- One Trustee with extensive experience in biodiversity conservation, with an understanding of local and global conservation frameworks and the role of modern zoos in species conservation.
These appointments will strengthen the Board's expertise and support the organisation's continued development, financial sustainability and conservation impact.
What You'll Do
Working alongside fellow Trustees and the executive team, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership and effective governance.
- Help shape the long-term future of Wales' National Zoo.
- Support the delivery of our conservation and education objectives.
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation.
Board meetings are held quarterly, primarily in person at the Zoo in Colwyn Bay.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to help shape the future of Wales' National Zoo.
- A rewarding Board-level leadership role within a respected conservation charity.
- The opportunity to contribute your expertise to a nationally significant conservation and education charity.
- Full induction, ongoing support and trustee training.
This is a voluntary position; reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
