We are a unique animal education centre, based within a primary school. We run weekly classes for children aged 2 - 18, teaching them various aspects of animal care and husbandry. Species include corsac foxes, parrots, meerkats, capybara, skunks, sugar gliders and much more.

The role:

This role could either just be limited to a Sunday role, or could be increased to involve hours on other days too (as a Teacher/Ranger not Duty Manager), however this would still involve the Sunday role.

Sunday Duty Manager (£15 per hour)

This role would a suit range of people, in particular, those that have prior professional animal husbandry experience, and experience managing a small team. The Sunday Duty Manager needs to be able to complete daily animal husbandry tasks indpendently, whilst managing other staff and volunteers. It would be desirable if the candidate had first aid qualifications and injection training, but not necessary. The candidate would have a proven track record of handling animal medical emergencies and experience working in a zoological collection. The Duty Manager also covers or supports with the occasional experience or class as needed, if staff are unwell.

Monday -Friday hours (£13.50 per hour)

If the candidate was interested in working during Monday- Friday (this could be Sunday-Thursday, or a different arrangement that still includes Sunday), the ideal candidate would also have teaching experience/experience working with children.

We are a unique animal education centre, based within a primary school. We are an Alternative Provision and work with students with high SEND needs, including children at risk of exclusion. Monday-Friday, the role includes working 1:1 with students, completing their daily academic targets, whilst with the animals.

We also run weekly extra-curricular classes for children aged 1 - 18, teaching them various aspects of animal care and husbandry.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our team. The right candidate must be comfortable working with children and animals. We are looking for an outgoing, driven candidate to join our small team and be an ambassador for our company.

Responsibilities will include:

General husbandry of all animals on site.

1:1 teaching students either in the classroom or the centre.

Running animal education classes for 2-18 year olds

Successful candidate(s) will have:

  • A wide range of experience with animals or teaching.
  • Experience working in a classroom environment.
  • Experience working with children with SEND
  • Experience working with children with behavioural difficulties
  • Great people skills and will be expected to engage with the public during weekly classes / educational tours/ school visits etc.

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic, motivated, able to work independently, with a positive outlook and excellent communication skills at all levels. Must also be comfortable completing manual work. Please note, shifts are fixed during school term time. Shifts during the school holidays are more flexible.

Desirable attributes of a successful candidate:

  • Strong observation skills.
  • Experience of public speaking.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • A relevant animal-related qualification.
  • Experience working with children including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Full in-house training will be given to the successful candidate. CPD training will be offered after a probational period.
