Twycross Zoo cares for 80 species including four of the great apes
and plays a vital role in global conservation, animal welfare and scientific research. As we continue to expand our charitable mission, we’re looking for a dedicated Veterinary Nurse to join our passionate Conservation and veterinary team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified and experienced nurse who wants to use their skills in a truly unique environment, supporting species from tiny amphibians to great apes, and contributing directly to conservation work that makes a difference worldwide.
What you’ll be doing
In this hands-on role, you’ll support our veterinary team in delivering first-class clinical care across the all zoo species. Daily work is incredibly varied and may include:
- Assisting with capture, restraint and clinical procedures, including anaesthesia
- Distributing medications and maintaining accurate medical records
- Supporting the daily running, hygiene and organisation of our veterinary facilities
- Playing a key role in our Preventive Medicine Programme
- Assisting with post-mortems, sample processing and research projects
- Managing veterinary drug records and stock
- Supporting biosecurity, zoonotic disease training, and emergency protocols
- Helping train vet and vet nurse students all year
- Carrying out multiple administrative tasks associated with the veterinary team and all administrative tasks in relation to the Ape heart project
No two days are the same, and your work will directly support the health and welfare of animals across the zoo.
What we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you are:
- An RCVS-qualified Veterinary Nurse with at least 2 years’ experience
- Practical, proactive and calm under pressure
- Confident working across multiple species (previous exotic experience helpful but not essential)
- IT literate, ideally with experience using Species 360ZIMS software
- Passionate about conservation, animal welfare and the mission of Twycross Zoo
- Flexible, team‑focused and keen to support a busy visitor attraction
- Willing to undertake first-aid and firearms training as required
Why join Twycross Zoo?
You’ll be part of a friendly, enthusiastic team driven by animal care, science and conservation. As a registered charity, every member of staff plays a direct role in our mission to protect wildlife and inspire future generations.
If you’re looking for a meaningful role where your skills genuinely make a difference, this could be the perfect next step.
