CONTEXT:
The Life Support System Working Group works to promote high standards of animal care and husbandry across BIAZA members, facilitating networking and training of staff through the provision of resources and hoc training events, working closely with BIAZA’s Taxon Working Groups. (See LSSWG ToRs for further information). It sits within the Species Advisory Committee, and as such, the LSSWG Chair retains a role on SAC.
The LSSWG is current looking for new members who can bring experience and knowledge of the LSS requirements for reptiles, amphibians and/or terrestrial invertebrates.
This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support and your collection must be a BIAZA member.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent your taxon within the LSSWG meetings, or when not possible, provide an update ahead of the meetings. (Frequency and regularity of meetings will vary with workload, but are expected to occur virtually once every 3-4 months).
- Support the LSSWG Chair in establishing achievable objectives (which support SAC’s Strategy) and in evaluating their success, annually. These objectives will focus on developing and communicating good practice in respect of animal care and welfare.
- Support the LSSWG Chair with required administration, which should be carried out effectively in a timely, professional and organized manner, including taking minutes/notes for LSSWG meetings where required.
- Liaise effectively with the BIAZA Office, the SAC Chair and especially with your relevant Taxon Working Group, ensuring efficient communication between LSSWG and your TWG.
- Actively support and aid BIAZA’s standing committees and other Working Groups as appropriate.
- Remain up to date on current relevant developments in practice and legislation, and disseminate this information to the LSSWG and Taxon Working Groups as appropriate.
- Assist, when requested, in dealing with relevant enquiries from the BIAZA Office and membership.
- Assist, when requested, with the organisation of workshops, meetings and presentations for LSSWG information dissemination.
